Ten leading designers have been commissioned to develop new uses for sustainably grown and harvested materials in order to tell a unique story about the life-cycle of materials and the power of conservation and design. The featured designers and places include Yves Behar/Costa Rica; Stephen Burks/Australia; Hella Jongerius/Mexico; Maya Lin/Maine; Christien Meindertsma/Idaho; Isaac Mizrahi/Alaska; Abbott Miller/Bolivia; Ted Muehling/Micronesia; Kate Spade/Bolivia; and Ezri Tarazi/China. On view will be the prototypes, drawings, and finished product created by the designers. The exhibition is co-curated by renowned graphic designer Abbott Miller and Ellen Lupton, curator of contemporary design at Cooper-Hewitt. This is the debut venue in a national tour of the exhibition, organized by The Nature Conservancy.

A special Green Innovator™ Workshop will be held at the Regional Career and Technical Education Conference at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Educational Complex in New York.
Participants will be introduced to our new Green Innovator™ INTERACTIVE WEBSITE, where educators can dialogue with others, upload their project descriptions and photos! We hope that this site will be a creative and idea sharing resource for all those involved.

The Green Innovator went on the road again! Solar One conductied a Green Innovator workshop at Honda’s Manufacturing Center in Lincoln, Alabama.
On March 3rd, 2009 Honda Alabama hosted a workshop for local High School and Middle School teachers at its Manufacturing site. The workshop offered teachers free curriculum resources, an activity kit and instructions on how to use this program in their classrooms. Honda also generously gave teachers a tour and spoke about how Honda is including aspects of sustainability into their cars and manufacturing processes!

NYC High School and Middle School teachers are encouraged to register for this Free workshop being held at the Center for Architecture. Participants will receive a free copy of the Green Innovator curriculum, a kit of hands-on activity materials and a free lunch and breakfast. Teachers will also receive a substitute teacher voucher for their school district so that they may attend. RSVP is required, seating is limited.

The Green Innovator is a new sustainability education program and curriculum aimed at high school students, that explores the process of innovation through sustainable design and manufacturing. With a planet facing a myriad of environmental challenges, The Green Innovator aims to help teachers facilitate a new dialogue with students about the integral role of design and green manufacturing processes in our transition toward a more sustainable future.
